Tim and Ashley Owens, owners of Old Coast and founders of Court Reserve, have already been deeply immersed in the pickleball world for years. Tim and Ashley’s experience owning/operating Court Reserve, one of the top management software tools in pickleball, led them towards opening Old Coast. As the club began operations, Old Coast made the decision to roll out a two-court indoor facility. Playing indoors provides a unique opportunity for players to enjoy year-round play in Florida’s often scorching heat. This setup, although compact, serves a crucial purpose: it allows the community to familiarize itself with the Old Coast brand before the grand opening of a larger facility in Spring 2025. This upcoming expansion will boast ten state-of-the-art pickleball courts and even include two golf simulators, catering to a broader range of recreational interests.
According to Jack Johnson, the Director of Pickleball at Old Coast, managing operations with just two courts has proven to be a lesson in efficiency. “Because we only have two courts, we have to be really efficient with scheduling for court space. There is no time on the schedule wasted,” Jack explains. This focus on maximizing limited resources not only ensures a smooth experience for current members but also prepares the club for the complexities of running a larger facility in the near future.
The decision to open a smaller facility ahead of the grander vision was not without its risks. However, by doing so, Old Coast Pickleball Club has been able to identify potential pitfalls and work through all the kinks of running a successful pickleball club. It has also allowed the community to become acquainted with the club’s ethos and offerings, while also fine-tuning operational strategies in a lower-stakes environment.
