The purpose of the Austin Pickle Ranch app is to “optimize communication, streamline court booking, and foster a stronger sense of community among [their] members,” according to Tim Klitch, Austin Pickle Ranch’s Chief Fun Officer and Co-Founder.
Through the app, the club strives to provide the best possible user experience and connect pickleball enthusiasts with the “greater Austin Pickle Ranch community.” One unique feature, and Klitch’s personal favorite, is the ‘Game Match’ which he describes as “your go-to buddy-finder, letting other users team up for reservations.” The ‘Game Match’ feature helps players connect with similarly skilled players while finding new partners and allowing them to meet new friends in the local pickleball community.
The app offers a streamlined booking process for players to reserve courts and make payments ahead of time. Moreover, it allows friends to split the court fee by adding them to the reservation via the app, making it easier for groups of players to reserve a court together. One feature Klitch highlights is the live chat feature, which “plays a pivotal role in connecting with [their] members [and offers] real-time assistance…addressing any question or concerns they may have.” This interactive feature creates an open line of communication between the Austin Pickle Ranch staff and local players. Further, because it is a direct communication channel, it “enhances the sense of community by fostering quick and personalized interactions” between the club and players. Finally, Austin Pickle Ranch uses the app to promptly communicate programming updates and other club notifications.
Anyone visiting Austin Pickle Ranch since its opening has been able to enjoy the seamless experience of the app as their founders decided to invest in the technology from the beginning. Front desk staff encourage players to download the app upon check-in at the facility if they are not already a user. Currently, they have signs posted throughout the club with a QR code that directs people to their website, which promotes the app on the homepage, and they are working on a QR code that will direct customers to download the app. Further, during a player’s time at the facility, they can check the app, which has live reservation information, to book additional court time and programs if they are available. With this live engagement, users are able to extend their time at the club and further immerse themselves in the experience.
The primary driver for having an app from the onset was Austin Pickle Ranch’s emphasis on user experience and their desire for every individual coming through their facility to have streamlined and stress-free interactions with their club so they can focus on enjoying the game of pickleball. Their leadership wanted to focus on “prioritizing and elevating the overall user experience” beginning with a player’s virtual interaction with the club. Additionally, they desire for the app to be a “convenient platform that enhances [the user’s] engagement with the facility.” Klitch and the team at Austin Pickle Ranch have thoroughly invested in all aspects of the user experience, including their prioritization of the app.
To develop this custom app, which is available in both major smartphone app stores, Austin Pickle Ranch worked with Playbypoint, a software company specializing in court reservation management. During the creation process, Klitch notes that the team at Playbypoint was “responsive and tuned into what [they] need[ed]” from this app to best serve their members and guests. Klitch believes this was a solid partnership that resulted in a successful app that their members love. As of early November 2023, the Austin Pickle Ranch app has a rating of 4.8 on the iOS App Store, demonstrating the efficacy of the app from its users. In particular, members enjoy “how it streamlines court bookings and saves all of their reservation details in one place.” This attention to detail from the Austin Pickle Ranch team exhibits their care for their local pickleball community and commitment to providing an enjoyable user experience.
