Examining the Benefits of Indoor Clubs in Big Cities: Court 16 in New York City

In the bustling environment of New York City, finding the time and the space to play recreational sports can be challenging. Court 16 is a pickleball club that offers indoor locations in downtown Brooklyn, Long Island City, and Manhattan- FiDi, providing members with continual access to the sport. There are lots of benefits surrounding an indoor space in big cities, but the prevailing advantage is that players can engage in pickleball regardless of the season. “New York City’s weather can be very unpredictable,” says Anthony Evrard, Co-Founder & CEO of Court 16. “Having an indoor club allows players to enjoy the game regardless of weather conditions.” Unlike many outdoor clubs that have to close during the winter months, Court 16 is able to offer year-round play.

At indoor clubs like Court 16, safety concerns regarding slippery courts from rain or extremely hot conditions in the summer are negligible. Evrard notes that the club offers cushioned floors which provide a wide range of safety benefits like impact absorption, which reduces strain on the joints and minimizes the risk of injuries such as sprains and fractions; slip resistance providing better traction; and shock absorption leading to decreased risk of impact related injuries. These factors reduce fatigue, allowing players to play for longer increments.

It is also fairly common for players to find themselves waiting around for an available spot at a public court in New York City. Court 16 provides the convenience of scheduling times and pickleball clinics beforehand. Evrard says, “The option to schedule in advance and manage time allocations has proven immensely advantageous for our players.” The club also offers more amenities that typical outdoor courts do not, like clean, accessible bathrooms, spaces for players to put their personal belongings while they play, and lounges designed by Ligne Roset where guests can relax in between games. He adds, “At our Long Island City location, we have the world’s first and only customizable LED-illuminated courts which make for a innovative and cinematic experience.”

Court 16 provides an environment perfect for focused training. Away from city noise, players can fully concentrate on improving their skills, helping them to stay focused on elevating their game without city distractions. The athletes don’t have to worry about combating wind or other environmental challenges, and the year-round access fosters more camaraderie that is sometimes lacking at outdoor locations. Evrard explains, “Indoor clubs provide a controlled environment regardless of weather, which leads to more consistent attendance resulting in a stronger sense of community.” The additional lounge spaces provide the opportunity for players to interact off the courts as well.

In the dynamic landscape of New York City, where time and space are precious commodities, Court 16 emerges as a retreat for pickleball enthusiasts seeking uninterrupted play and a supportive community. By offering indoor locations across key neighborhoods, the club transcends the weather and time limitations, ensuring year-round access to the sport. The club’s commitment to convenience and comfort, exemplified by advanced scheduling options and amenities, sets it apart from traditional outdoor venues. Court 16 embodies the essence of urban athleticism, offering a haven where players can thrive amidst the bustling rhythm of the city.
